Adsense: Block advertisers from low-per-click paying campaigns?

(written by unicorn)

There are some ads that appear everywhere: amazon.com, pricewatching pages etc. I usually block them to not have my visitors leaving my page for a 0.03 cent click.

What do you think about that?

The problem I see with that approach is that if you see these Ads then Google has no higher paying Ads for your website at this moment.

If you block them you'll most likely get even lower paying Ads.

I stopped micro managing the Ads I see on my website long ago and just let Google serve what it thinks is best for my website.

Because of behavioral targeting you don't see the Ads that your visitors see anyway. What I do is quality check the Ads that are targeted to my website and which I see on my site.

If there are scam websites advertising on my forum, like "find out when you die for free" and if you register with the service you find yourself paying 95$ because the real cost were hidden in the small print or "lose 8 pounds in 1 week" kind of scams I'll block them to increase my users experience and protect them from scams.

I never touch this competitive ad filter because I don't have any competitor. This filter has been done if you're a pet shop displaying adsense (pretty stupid idea to use adsense) and that you want to block all other pet shops advertizing on adwords and keep only ads from other vendors. Then it has been used by people to try to block low paying ads.

But that is the job of adsense, not ours, don't waste time on this and use it on ways to increase traffic, like producing content that people are searching for.

I wish Google let us set a minimum price per click where if it couldn't meet that price it would show our backup ad or whatever we had configured.

That would be great but unfortunately this will not happen otherwise Google would never be able to sell Ads for a few cents and small advertisers would not be able to use AdWords.
