Will removing low performing websites increase revenue?

Hello

I often hear that due to smart pricing applied a low performing websites with AdSense can have a negative effect on your overall earnings.

I personally think that Google AdSense can grain down their smart pricing to the Ad Unit level and for sure to the website level. However knowing is better than guessing so that is why I start this experiment.

I currently run 5 Forum which are responsible for the following percentages of my income:

  • Forum 1 (patient forum): 93,52%
  • Forum 2 (parents forum): 5,82%
  • Forum 3 (diet forum): 0,41%
  • Forum 4 (diabetes forum): 0,08%
  • Forum 5 (asthma blog + forum): 0,12%
  • Forum 6 (AdSenseExperts) is not monetized via AdSense

All of the forums have roughly the same CTR. The difference in Income is nearly all based on traffic differences. I will remove all Ads on Forum 2-5 and see if I only run AdSense on Forum 1 if this will have an impact on my earnings. I will do that for at least 7 days starting now.

I will let you know how it turns out but before that I would like your opinion on this topic.

Do you think that low performing websites have a smart pricing impact on your high performing sites?

What is your experience?

I would be very interested in seeing the results, I've often thought of removing ads from my low paying sites

I think this experiment wont create very objective results because I use my AdSense implementations on all my forums the same way and they have proven to work. This is why "low performing websites" of mine are only low performing due to less traffic. But depending on the outcome someone else with a different site background may take over the test and make it more objective later.

We'll see how it goes :)

Ok I finished the Test a little early because plain and simple the only effect there is, is a decreased earning. CPC, eCPM and Earnings are all down.

But I expected as much. AdSense can track down Ads on a per page basis so why should one website have negative influence on the other in general.

So I activated Ads on Forum 2 again but 3 and 4 perform so low, I keep them off.

Maybe they are a little more attractive to new members then :)

It was worth doing a little test, but personally I never bothered with the smartpricing thing that I read a lot about in various forums where people talk but they have nothing more to say than what I can know by myself.

I mean in those forums there is no inside information from google employees, it's just people talking about smartpricing and pretending they know more about it than is available publicly.

My method is simply to find ways to increase overall traffic to my pages with adsense on. Then make sure I have a correct CTR and that's it.

If I hear that Publishers talk about strategies to increase performance of existing inventory I am all ears.

Due to my work as AdSense Consultant I often see a lot of websites that have no clue that they are leaving a lot of money on the table because they don't experiment. And this is what AdSenseExperts is all about. Not everyone has to do experiments but some do and maybe they discover something that will help us all to increase our revenue further :)

i second this, this is very right, when i joined adsense seminars (go monetization with google) few weeks a go, the officially adsense staff says, some little publishers doing experiment every month and always increasing even doubled or tripled, with same traffic in those month, but of course experiments with still comply with adsense TOS

I am guilty of this. I have been adding new, unique content, but not staying up on current adsense information. Shame on me! Now, I'm in here hoping to add my "2 cents" and to get some guidance.

BTW, what do you mean "adsense seminars"?
