AdSense Certified Ad Networks. To block or not to block?

Hello

There seems to be a lot of opinions on blocking Google AdSense Certified Ad Networks.

Reasons for blocking go from “they are trying to sneak in the backdoor using one, or more, of these 3rd party networks” and “if I wanted crappy low-quality ads on my high-quality site I would have signed up for crappy ad networks” to “if the advertisers were that good, they’d be using AdWords”

Reasons for not blocking are that “advertisers from external Google-certified networks will be able to compete with AdWords advertisers for your ad space”

Adsense: Block advertisers from low-per-click paying campaigns?

(written by unicorn)

There are some ads that appear everywhere: amazon.com, pricewatching pages etc. I usually block them to not have my visitors leaving my page for a 0.03 cent click.

What do you think about that?

Announcing beta test of expanded category blocking

Last year we launched sensitive category blocking in order to give you more control over the ads that appear on your sites by letting you opt out of receiving ads that fall into potentially sensitive specific categories such as dating, religion, and politics.

another new guy

(written by simo)

Hey folks. Just thought I’d register here and snoop around and see what other publishers are doing. I run a website that generates over $1000 a month with adsense being 90% of my income. It’s great to have the web pay your rent and car insurance.

Well that’s all!

count the amount of visitors with ad block enabled

(written by webgilde)

There was recently a huge discussion in Germany about ad block that website users installed in their browser to not see any ads. Some publishers united and asked their visitors to switch off adblock.

I also thought about doing so, but I am a number person and love to base my actions on facts. So I created a counter for ad block users that tells you how many of your visitors actually use adblock. In my case the number was much lower than expected, so I can spend my time on something else.

Anyway, I developed it as a WordPress plugin and uploaded it to wordpress.org to be downloaded for free. I would love to get your feedback on it.
