Adsense Targeting Question

(written by MissLiss)

Recently my adsense CTR plummeted (through no changes what-so-ever!) on my end. It’s been consistent for the past 11 months, and I’ve been with google for 8 Years.

My question is- Does anyone know if google has recently changed their Method for Targeting the ads? I noticed that the ads within my pages have NOTHING what-so-ever to do with the topic on the particular page.

Each page has correct meta data, including keywords, title and description, I know the pages are being indexed regularly, so where is google coming up with their ad info from

There is a discussion on webmasterworld about the new AdSense Layout changes effecting CTR. AdSense moved the URL from below the text next to the title. You can find it here: Are google's new ad layouts affecting your CTR? Google AdSense forum at WebmasterWorld

Oy Vey, I figured it was another of their retarded algorithym BS Crap. I think they just like to screw with people.

Unfortunately, they don't seem to have the ability to discern who the REAL Author is! You'd think they'd realize that people who have had their websites for over a decade probably are adding their own unique content and not "link farming" or "scraping". Grrrrr.

My CTR plummeted July 1st and is Just now at about 3/4 of where it was.

Nothing like busting your rump adding multiple articles each week only to be kicked in the groin with a golf shoe!

CTR is affected by layout, placement, audience, look of the ad and ad content not the adsense algorithm unless by removing invalid clicks.

CPC is affacted by the algorithm.

Actually No, CTR is greatly affected by how the ads are targeted- if you visit a page on "Cleaning Fish" and the ads are All about "Download Google Chrome" & "Buy Paint" - then no one visiting that page is going to click on them, hence a Major Drop in the Click Thru Rate.

When google did their latest little crap update, their ability to target went down the Drain Instantly.

More than 60% of the ads that are showing STILL have NOTHING to do with the content on my site. Before their "update"- the ads were RIGHT on target- which is why I had a High CTR.

How do you know that 60% have nothing to do with your content?

What you are seeing is not what other people are seeing since Interest Based Ads were introduced. Try to visit your site without accepting cookies and without being logged in to your Google account. Then you see the plain context ads.

Its also worth pointing out that by logging into your Adsense reports and looking at targetting types you can see the breakdown in IBA ads to see what the CTR is there.
