Used and optimized AdSense and love to learn more

(written by webgilde)

Hi, I am Thomas

I am a happy person, a software engineer mainly for WordPress and a publisher as well.

I run some sites with a couple of million monthly impressions that I use as a sandbox for my experiments with AdSense and content and ad optimization in general.

I would consider myself to be a more advanced AdSense user. I do intensive split tests, wrote my own plugin to serve AdSense depending on browser width (for responsive layouts), just published an ad block counter and, of course, regularely try other ad networks.

Still, I always discover new tricks and love to learn more. I recently started with Google DFP, what was the reason why I found this forum.

I’d love to also help others to get up and running with AdSense.

Best wishes
Thomas aka webgilde

Hi Thomas,That's great! I am a half-happy person! I am new to Adsense and have just added some units to my website, but am getting disappointing results (CTR 1.5%). I need to improve it. Maybe you could help me? it's www.freeflowmtb.com Many thanksRich

Hi Rich, let me try to cheer you up a bit. I run a well optimized website with a CTR below 1%. But even on this site there are subcategories with almost 10%, some others are below 0.10%. The bottom line is, there is no benchmark for a "good" CTR. You might be unhappy where others might celebrate.

Anyway, I headed over to your site and saw, that you seem to use mainly Google AdSense. Did you try A/B tests or another network? Depending on the interests of your readers, an affiliate program might better suit you.

    Good Luck!

      Hi Thomas,

Thanks very much for your advice :D
You said 'A/B tests or another network?', i will look into that, anyother networks you'd advise? I am very new to this so don't know any other reputable good ones.

      thanks

Hi Rich, there are a bunch of networks and I am currently testing some of them. Normally, for unspecific sites, AdSense is almost unbeatable. Analytics and AdSense can tell you more, how you perform where and you might use it to optimized.

In your product specific case, there also might be an affiliate partner. There are a bunch of them and you might just register to a couple and see, if they have bike-specific products/partners. Than, just try some of them for a while.

    Good Luck Thomas
