Need Fresh Eyes

(written by nvltd)

I stumbled upon this website and I am glad to join the community.

I am not exactly a newbie to adsense (about a year now) but sometimes I just can’t see the changes that need to be done to increase user experience and increase adsense ctr.

My site is blisters on feet dot com and I am curious to know what you think I should do to give the site a better look and feel while improving ctr.

I question if amazon links and the ebook should be removed completely to allow focus on adsense. I question if the theme should be changed to allow more visability of adsense blocks above the fold (where the header images are now).

I question if the vertical sidebar skyscrapers are a good choice. I am a bit frustrated but I am ready to make changes. Any suggestions will go a long way in helping me.

Thank you.

Some Secrets to my success

Hi

I am a medical doctor and got involved in the online business about 10 years ago.

I first started to use adsense when I started my hiphop music website (which was closed down in 2009). I was able to earn the running costs with Adsense but the hiphop market is not a good paying niche to monetize with adsense.

2006 I started my first German medical forum (Resource no longer exists).

I was a student and I started the forum as a hobby and to keep me learning.

Since then I am working on developing a forum network of medical forums discussing all different kinds of themes of medicine. E.g. I have a parents forum, a diet forum, a diabetes forum, an asthma blog and some more ideas for future use.

I often hear that you can’t earn much with forums because of the low CTR and I have to DISAGREE!

Currently my earnings pay my rent, my car, my party live and some extra expenses.

That is not enough to support a high lifestyle but it’s more than many people in Germany  earn with their full time job. I have a full time job as a doctor in a children’s hospital and my salary takes care of the rest so no worries at this point.

Ok but what are your secrets you might ask?

My secrets are:

However, I was thinking to add your suggestion ie. intro box with adsense ie. as you did for VB here..

AdSense integration together with nice welcome message

My site already has ads,

I tried intuitive a year back, it was good for while then again back to bad ctr.

Turning off ads for anonymous users

(written by alforddm)

There is something I’ve been wondering and I haven’t been able to find the answer. I know that regular users on a site generally have low ctr’s. If I disable ads for signed in users and my ctr goes up will it encourage advertisers to use placements on my site? Or am I just losing income from the signed in users that "might" have clicked? My site is approximately 50/50 returning vs new.

Thank you

Use different Formats

(written by CThiessen)

Hi,

i like to share some experience.
I used:

To see what is better i stay with the welcome Message (i think its´s on of the best)
But instead of the second post i use:

So what happens:

The CTR goes up but the revenue goes down.

I think it is good to have different formats. My second solution has all Ads in the same format (336×280).

I think not all Advertisers have Ads in every Format (for Image Ads).

So i think it is helpful to use all main Formats somewhere on the page, if possible with the design.

best regards

Christian
