What is your experience with using text or image, or both in regards to clicks and amount per click.
I’m getting emails from google saying that text/image rich ads are much better.

Text ads tend to have a higher click through rate where Image ads have a higher CPM.
If you use standard ad sizes like the 300x250px medium rectangle I strongly suggest using text/image ads.
There are tons of advertisers booking image campaigns for standard ad formats which you miss out with text only.
In my case this doubled my revenue.
Wow!
I just enabled ALL my ads for both. We'll see what happens.
Thank`s for this idea!

This is a very accurate test, as I have been doing this for several years EVERY WEEK.
Should I go back to just text ads?
I would let changes run for at least 4 weeks.
Google is slow to addapt and AdSense behaviour is more of a blackbox then predictable.

300x250px, 728x90px, 160x600px
I would suggest you try 300x250px for 4 weeks (or at least until your next burst) and see what happens ;)
Interesting.
Yeah, and the to 336 ad is always text, and same with bottom leaderboard. Doesn't show an image.
Will give it a try. Thanks!!!!
And AdSense being an auction based Ad System the more competition (which you have on standard ad unit sizes with image and text enabled) you will earn more on avarage.
This is the basic logic behind the system but AdSense being a very complex black box this behaviour can't always be observed though. But on avarage over a longer period of time this should become true.
Makes sense.
Please take a quick look now:

I would strongly advice to remove the leaderboard at the bottom and replace it with a different Ad Unit.
Otherwise it looks ok
ps: Why don't you make your embedded youtube video fit your canvas? It looks a little off (to small) with 250px width.
What ad would you put in the bottom to replace the leaderboard?
My adsense sites have been killed recently with this last update. Is it not good now to have a large rectangle top left of a page, like before?
Also, with my issue of the...
"You are still violating AdSense TOS by displaying a 728x90px Leaderboard and only showing 600px of it due to your page layout.
Read more: Text or Image Ads?"
...could this be another reason why google is killing my adsense sites?
You could run them as an a/b split test to see which performs better.
Another alternative would be a link unit or two
Okay...thank you!!!
Ranking. It seems like across the board my niche, adsense sites have been radically lowered in search results and I'm wondering why. Great, unique content, and decent linking. WTF!
And, has google now changed where they want their ads?
I was told that having a big rectangle in top left of article (first fold) is now not good. Is this true?
The size or ad placement is not the problem.
What admin means is that the 728x90px Leaderboard Ad Unit you originally showed on the bottom of your page was only showing 600px of it due to your page layout. But as your replaced it by a smaller oner that problem is solved.
And no, that wouldn´t be a reason for lowering your ranking, I guess, at the most you would've received an email about TOS violations.
Or am I missing something and you were told "that having a big rectangle in top left of article (first fold) is now not good" somewhere else?
I am now running both image and text ads. Mostly because of the advise on this site.
I'll see what happens.
Wondering if I should put some more text ads on my home page. As I am only running 1 right now... (Resource no longer exists)
