Does switching the loading order of Ads influence income?

Hello

Google said in the AdSense Blog:

Here’s a way to maximize your revenue with multiple ad units: Make sure the ad unit with the highest CTR is the first ad unit in the HTML code of your page.

Source: Inside AdSense Blog, see below for more context.

But first:

I put this to a test again for 4 full days. Here is my result:

Does the first AdSense Ad Unit really gets the highest paying Ads

Hello

I know I wrote an article about

in which I said that it is a known fact that the first AdSense Ad Unit in the HTML receives the highest paying Ads.

However reviewing my AdSense statistics today after replacing my Large Rectangles in my content with medium rectangles I am not that sure anymore. Or at least the theses needs an additional comment.

I still think that the highest paying Ads are served in the first Ad Unit that appears in your HTML. However this does not necessarily mean that the highest paying Ads are shown in the first Ad Unit. I think this effect depends on your Ad Unit sizes and if you allow image Ads or not.
First Some Statistics
My first AdSense Ad Unit (visible and in HTML) on my forum is a Large Rectangle serving image and text Ads.

Gamer Brief – The Drudge Report for Gamers

(written by BattleStrats)

I am one of the Drudge addicts that keep a tab open almost all day watching for breaking news. The site isn’t fancy and is meant to be something simple and easy to read.

I would like thoughts on my adsense placements. I have been reading a lot lately – followed some tips here from the experts.

I will be writing some stories and publishing them but the majority of my stories are basically a gaming news aggregator and just show people the top stories of the day.

(Resource no longer exists)

I’ll point out what I have so far.

Only Adsense is being used:

  • Above the top featured story is a leaderboard text/graphics image Above that leaderboard is a 728×15 Link Unit
  • 1st Column on Left side is Large Rectangle 336×280 text/graphics
  • 2nd Column 2 Linkunits placed side by side
  • 3rd Column Large Rectangle 336×280 ONLY TEXT

I have another site that is similar to this so I won’t ask you to help with both of them. Since if I get this one customized just right I can duplicate it there easily.

I do have another site that is completely different that I will ask for input once I feel I am finished with the first complete setup.

Thanks in advance

Incredibly Low CTR & CPC

(written by OmenGFX)

Hi guys, new here!

Anyways, I run a website (go figure). Here are our stats from google analytics, for the last 30 days.

(Image no longer exists)

I understand AdSense is strict as far as discussing specifics relating to your AdSense statistics and what not.

I will say that those numbers earned me approximately $360.

Now I understand that the niche is a factor, but from what I have been reading, that number is fairly low compared to the statistics. Our layout is a typical two column wordpress theme.

Currently we are running a Leaderboard in header, a Wide Skyscraper in sidebar, and a Large Rectangle in each individual post. I don’t know what else to try, am kind of just looking for any alternative suggestions.

Use different Formats

(written by CThiessen)

Hi,

i like to share some experience.
I used:

To see what is better i stay with the welcome Message (i think its´s on of the best)
But instead of the second post i use:

So what happens:

The CTR goes up but the revenue goes down.

I think it is good to have different formats. My second solution has all Ads in the same format (336×280).

I think not all Advertisers have Ads in every Format (for Image Ads).

So i think it is helpful to use all main Formats somewhere on the page, if possible with the design.

best regards

Christian
